Addiction Treatment
Addiction is a complex and deeply personal struggle that affects millions of people worldwide. It is characterized by an uncontrollable dependence on a substance or behavior, often leading to serious consequences in a person’s physical health, mental well-being, relationships, and overall quality of life.
At Mighty Mental Health, we understand the challenges of addiction and provide compassionate, evidence-based treatment to help individuals regain control. If you or a loved one is battling addiction, know that recovery is possible, and our dedicated team is here to guide you every step of the way.
Addiction is more than just a habit—it’s a chronic disease that alters brain chemistry and creates a compulsive need for a substance or behavior. While some addictions develop from recreational use or casual habits, others stem from deeper psychological issues, including trauma, anxiety, and depression.
Over time, addiction rewires the brain’s reward system, making it difficult for individuals to stop without professional intervention. It often leads to:
- Loss of control
- Tolerance
- Withdrawal symptoms
- Neglect of responsibilities
Recognizing the signs of addiction is the first step toward seeking help.
Physical Addictions
Physical addictions develop when a person becomes dependent on a substance. Prolonged use leads to tolerance, requiring higher doses to achieve the desired effects, and withdrawal symptoms when attempting to stop.
Common physical addictions include:
- Alcohol
- Drugs
- Nicotine/Smoking
- Caffeine
Behavioral or Psychological Addictions
Behavioral addictions do not involve a substance but can be just as destructive. These addictions involve a compulsive engagement in activities that trigger pleasure and dopamine release.
Common behavioral addictions include:
- Gambling
- Overeating or Binge Eating
- Exercise Addiction
- Compulsive Internet or Social Media Use
- Sex and Pornography Addiction
- Cell Phone Dependence
Regardless of the type, addiction can have a profound effect on a person’s life, making professional treatment essential for recovery.
Causes of Addiction
There is no single cause of addiction, but several factors may contribute to its development, including:
- Genetics – Studies show that individuals with a family history of addiction may be at a higher risk.
- Environmental Influences – Exposure to substance abuse, peer pressure, and stressful life situations can contribute to addiction.
- Mental Health Conditions – Anxiety, depression, trauma, and other mental health disorders often co-occur with addiction.
- Early Exposure – Individuals who start using substances or engaging in addictive behaviors at a young age may be more prone to long-term addiction.
Understanding the root causes of addiction is crucial for long-term recovery, which is why treatment at Mighty Mental Health focuses on both the addiction itself and any underlying issues contributing to it.

Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) for Opioid Dependency
Opioid addiction has become a nationwide crisis, affecting individuals from all walks of life. Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) is considered the gold standard for treating opioid use disorder, as it reduces withdrawal symptoms and cravings, allowing patients to focus on recovery without the overwhelming physical effects of detox.
At Mighty Mental Health, our MAT program uses FDA-approved medications such as:
- Buprenorphine (Suboxone, Subutex) – Helps reduce cravings and withdrawal symptoms. We also offer monthly injections of Sublocade and Brixadi.
- Methadone – A long-acting medication that stabilizes patients recovering from opioid use disorder.
MAT is not a one-size-fits-all approach, which is why we work closely with each patient to determine the most effective course of treatment.
Please Note: We do not provide detox services for individuals in active withdrawal. If immediate medical detox is needed, please visit a hospital emergency room.
