Bulimia Nervosa Treatment

Bulimia Nervosa Treatment in Las Vegas, NV

Bulimia nervosa is a serious eating disorder characterized by episodes of binge eating followed by compensatory behaviors such as vomiting, excessive exercise, or misuse of laxatives to prevent weight gain. Individuals with bulimia often have an intense preoccupation with body weight and shape, despite typically maintaining what is considered a normal weight.

While bulimia is more common in women, it affects individuals of all genders and can lead to severe physical and emotional health complications if left untreated. Many people with bulimia experience shame, guilt, or distress about their eating behaviors, often engaging in secretive binge-purge cycles multiple times a week—or even several times a day in severe cases. Fortunately, our Las Vegas bulimia treatment center offers compassionate, evidence-based care to help individuals break the cycle and begin the journey toward recovery. Whether you’re seeking eating disorder counseling in Las Vegas or specialized therapy for bulimia, our team is here to help.

Causes of Bulimia Nervosa

The exact cause of bulimia is not fully understood, but research suggests a combination of biological, psychological, and environmental factors, including:

  • Genetics & Brain Chemistry – A family history of eating disorders or imbalances in brain chemicals that regulate mood and appetite may contribute.
  • Social & Cultural Influences – Societal pressure, particularly through media, can create unrealistic beauty standards, increasing the risk of disordered eating.
  • Psychological Factors – Individuals with bulimia may have underlying anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, or perfectionism, which contribute to binge-purge behaviors.
  • Stressful Life Events – Major transitions, trauma, or high-pressure situations can trigger disordered eating as a coping mechanism.
  • Family Environment – Growing up in an environment that emphasizes thinness and dieting can increase the likelihood of developing bulimia.

For many individuals, purging provides a temporary sense of control over stress, anxiety, or body image concerns—however, it ultimately leads to a damaging cycle that can be difficult to break without professional help.

Barbra at Mighty Mental Health has been absolutely amazing. Both I and one of my children see her, and I cannot say enough good things about the care she provides.

One of the things I appreciate most is that she truly listens. That’s surprisingly hard to find in a psychiatrist. I have Borderline Personality Disorder along with other mental health challenges, and not once has Barbra made me feel judged, dismissed, or less than because of my diagnosis. Unfortunately, that has not been my experience with many providers in the past. She approaches every conversation with compassion, understanding, and respect.

She has also been wonderful with my child. As a parent, making decisions about mental health treatment—especially medication for a young child—can be incredibly difficult and emotional. Barbra never pressures or dismisses concerns. Instead, she takes the time to listen, answer questions, and work through concerns together. She approaches my child with patience, understanding, and genuine care.

Barbra has helped both of us feel supported, heard, and understood. Her compassion and ability to connect with her patients make her truly stand out. I highly recommend her to anyone looking for a provider who combines knowledge, empathy, and exceptional patient care.

Barbra is absolutely phenomenal. Her knowledge, professionalism, and attention to detail are second to none. She takes the time to truly listen, understand your needs, and provide expert recommendations tailored specifically to you. Throughout the entire process, I felt confident that I was receiving the highest level of care and guidance. Her expertise and dedication set her apart, and I wouldn’t trust anyone else. I highly recommend Barbra to anyone looking for exceptional service and outstanding results.

I have been a patient of Barbara’s for a few years now and have seen great change in myself since starting as a patient here I thank Barbara for that. Her bedside manner is amazing, she is thorough and extremely knowledgeable. Everyone at front has always been great. Liz is great at responding quickly and getting answers you may need with a very friendly manner. It’s always clean and bright, colorful and they make you feel very comfortable there. All around you can not only see but feel everyone there truly cares for their patients and that is most important when you need help.

Have been with Barbara for a few years. She cares about her patients. She is detail oriented and does her best finding the right medication or help outside of her office. Always a pleasant and satisfying experience. Today she was observing a patient appreciation month. It was exciting to see all the homemade gifts she and her staff prepared for her patients totally free and a gift to show her gratitude.i look forward to continuing my care with her.i would definitely recommend her to anyone seeking assistance. A rare gem in this community of rushed physicians and flawed healthcare
